OSH Professional
Purpose of the scheme
The OSH Professional Certification Scheme by the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) is a recognition framework developed to certify competent and experienced practitioners in the field of occupational safety and health in Malaysia.
MSOSH offers professional certification schemes for individuals in the occupational safety and health field namely.
- Certified Safety and Health Professional (SHP)
- Certified OSH Professional Trainer (OSHTr)
Who is it for?
- These certifications aim to recognize experienced professionals and trainers who have contributed significantly to OSH practices in Malaysia.
From Vision to Recognition
- The idea of professional recognition began in 2017, when MSOSH identified the need to recognize OSH practitioners beyond the label of “practitioner” alone. Despite their critical role in protecting lives at work, OSH professionals had no formal platform to be acknowledged as “Professionals” with a post-nominal title. The question arose — “If engineers, architects, and urban planners are formally recognized, why not those responsible for human safety?” This vision was brought forward with years of research, stakeholder engagement, and benchmarking against international models such as IOSH UK. A study visit to the IOSH headquarters in the UK further validated the need for a recognition model rooted in professional competence and industry-based endorsement.
